hi im new here so forgive me if this isnt how u do it. ok i found these rocks. ive asked on a few boards and they seem torn between Triassic Sherwood Sandstone or jasper of somekind, would anybody be able to clear this up for me. als o im thining of buying a tumbler, and would this be ok to polish in one, as its already tumbled by the sea? as a girl asked me if i could try to make it into jewelry. Found on cleveleys beach

If that sandstone,it would shatter in a tumbler....At least the Montans sandstone would... Looks like jasper to me...

I don't tumble,but I know sandstone is very sandy,I don't think it would polish.... I'm sure someone on here would know about jaspers more than I do-thumbs up...

Can you show it dry? If it is dry and you put water on it does it absorb the water fairly quickly?

another question i cracked open some of the white stones(bigger versions of the ones on the photo, and they where white inside, or crystaly, but they really smelled of burnt matches. any ideas why?

Did you crack them by hitting them with iron or steel? It's tough to tell from the dry photo, but if they are white and crumbly I wouldn't tumble them. If they soak up water easily I wouldn't tumble them. If they seem very hard and tough and more solid than porous I'd give it a try.

sorry wrong stones (not the ones in the photo) the white ones i used a metal lump hammer and it just shattered the red/yellow stones arnt very porus and i scratched with scissors, which where steel i will add a photo of one the white stones for u
