You know, regarding this new allowable public consumption of weed, I've always wondered. Everyone always bitches about second hand cigarette smoke. Well weed smoke is just as bad for you plus it gets you high. Heck, I've been to parties where just being in the room a couple of minutes gets you baked crosseyed. Now, you go to a party but don't smoke any weed, get baked on second hand smoke, go out and hop in your car reeking of it cause the smoke smells up everything, and wind up getting stopped by a cop for driving under the influence when you didn't even smoke.
Interesting, folks say booze is worse but you can't get a contact high off booze. Something to think about now that pot is legal in some areas.....Mel

Hell, the NFL is thinking of letting their players use pot,if they have an injury or doctors note-FREAKIN' CRAZY!!!
I'm all for cancer and other sick people having medical weed...But this recreational pot smoking is crap!I haven't seen one pothead just take a hit and than quit with the joint, they smoke up all day and get wasted! This program will be abused to the fullest! I can't stand the smell of it and refuse to be anywhere around people that smoke it,family or friends! LOL,now our ememeies can wait till all states pass the reefer bills and wait till most of the population is stoned, than attack!!!! I'm serious on that note! My opinion of course!

The hardest working dude I know is a pothead. Why do you care what the NFL allows their players to do it or not? Are you suggesting pot smoking NFL players will be jelly and not the warriors they are paid to be? What's the downside? In fact, why does anyone care what any athlete puts in his body?

Yeah, I've seen hard (and happy) workers that are potheads. Fortunately they did not have to write anything or speak publicly though cause they'd have a hard time putting a sentence together that made a lick of sense and did not contain the word "dude" and giggles *L*...Mel

Losers take themselves out. Why should we interfere? Ever listen to Alfie?

The one thing that bothers me about the statement "losers take themselves out" is that too often they also take others out. That, in my opinion, is why we should interfere, and not be nice about it.

People are gonna smoke weed anyway, so why not make it legal? Then the Gov can tax it. After all, the Prez and fam need more money for vacations so there you go! The second hand smoke and then driving under the influence is something that I have not thought about. i go NOWHERE that someone smokes, anything, so I'm safe from that, but when on the road and meeting oncoming cars, all it takes is a swerve and then sayonara sister, time to checkout! Something to ponder.

Candles or incense put me down.
Why do some people kill their own spouse and/or kids and then themselves is incomprehensible to me. Why can't they just go sideways and leave everyone else alone?
And those cowards that want to "Be Killed By Cop" are . . .

And those cowards that want to "Be Killed By Cop" are . . . In the discussion about pot, this is a non-sequitor. Potheads are peace loving children. They do not kill their spouses/children nor themselves any more than the non-pot smoking population. Prohibitions do not work. Ever. If there is will, there is a way.

If people are responsible and use pot to have a good time i do not care. But i do not care to have them on the road.
I do not at all feel like pot smokers are peace lovers. Because a lot of people that smoke are getting it illegally. And run w/the crowd that probably break the law with higher occurrence.
And a pot smoker w/out pot can have anxiety issues. Because of the simple fact that he wants it. If he can not find it then what does he do. And how motivated is he. solution-legalize it.
But treat them with the same rules about driving as alcohol.

Really? What a "racist" statement. ANY group of people has ALL KINDS in it.
Sorry, but that is the truth.

I never met a pothead that was angry or violent or dangerous. That is my truth. Your mileage may vary. I bet a nickel I been around MANY more potheads than you and most here. While it wasn't exactly legal here thirty years ago, few people are/were arrested for possession here in Cali. Cops realized it was a waste of time to bust someone solely for weed. They do include pot charges if other crimes are involved. By counting friends, colleagues and acquaintances my estimate of the pot smoking segment is prolly 5% or so of the whole. If that carries nationwide then there are 15 MILLION potheads in this country. The problems sold to us by the government would be easy pickings for the press, yet we never have once heard of "pot induced" murders. Traffickers kill each other. Legalization stops that. Users make love not war. My estimate is good. They left out caffeine. I agree with jamesp in that driving impaired is a problem. Proof of impairment is problematic. A person will test positive for THC 6 months after a single ingestion. They are not impaired even 12 hours after smoking. Lastly, all the real issues associated (trafficking, cartel shootings and the like) with pot go away if the product is legalized. The issue at hand there is how much of the government is built upon the foundation called "the war on drugs". While I predict an end to the prohibition, that particular government industry will not let go easily. BTW, I do not use weed. I don't like it's effects. But I truly believe in a person's right to choose what they put in their own body. It is a flower for gosh sake.

Really? What a "racist" statement. ANY group of people has ALL KINDS in it. Sorry, but that is the truth. Please carefully my next thought very carefully. That statement in and of itself is proof pot is not the problem. Because societal problems are set across (as you put it) "people of all kinds" the only common denominator is people. Pot is not the problem. People are!

"I bet a nickel I been around MANY more potheads than you and most here."
Pretty strong accusation! Could be true but there were plenty teenies trying everything from glue to beer to pot to coke.
I was amazed in college and at places like Woodstock at just how much wilder, the kids from the country were about sex and drugs than city kids.

The jail system is big business in the surrounding counties of Atlanta and the south. I see kids going back to jail and often prison for ridiculous small possession charges. They are put on probation and get busted for user quantity of pot. Over and over. That really crawls up my skin. Legal in some states and prison in others?? The government is so imbalanced.
And the legal system treats it as some kind of meth level drug and it is not. It is an excuse to keep our wealthy jail and prison system employed at the expense of the youth. Our schools have steel Ford busses. The jails have aluminum Blue Bird busses. Walk into any courthouse in any of the 150+ small Georgia counties and they are lavish and the smell of heavy spending exudes.
So many young lives are being ruined by the strong arm of the pot prevention law. Monthly urine tests from probation requirements nails most of them. The third offense often results in prison stays. These punk ass kids have no idea of how damaging this is to their careers. And i am talking a high percentage of suburbanite party kids that are about harmless. Nail the hardened gang bangers. Theives and muggers DUI POTDUI etc should catch hell.
It is long over do. Pot possession charges should be no more than misdemeanor. It is an addiction. And the legal system fills the jails up w/these people because it is socially unacceptable in the south. Justifying their incarcerations. I would not be harping but local jails are packed with 18-22 year old boys. I bet 80% are in for DUI and pot use. DUI is understandable but not the pot charges.
As far as pot users being any different than non users in their behavior is moot to me. People that go up usually come back down. And their general demeanor is not impressive to me when they are stoned. My worker uses. When he is stoned i can tell. And it is in the occasional mornings when he has no memory and and has stupid painted on his face. Those mornings his mental capacity sucks and i have jobs that are repetitive for him till he wakes up. He out works most 3 to 1 when he is stoned so i choose to not say anything. I want my work done. But he makes more mistakes when stoned.
I wish they would just get over it and legalize the stuff.

The pot issue is a bit more complicated . A lot of people mix other substances with it. A lot of people want to graduated to stronger substances. These actions are serious. Same song and dance for any mind altering substance. Add addictive personality and the result is usually negative. It has it's issues. All is well if it is used responsibly.
