I've seen these great metal sculptures every time I go to Quartzsite. They are made using re-purposed metal items, by a guy named Garry Underwood. He is from Alliance, Nebraska.
I just love getting a close-up look at all the different types of things he uses.
These are not little things!! A life size foal.
Say what?
These next few photos are from a couple years ago.
I'd say this is a mule, judging by the ears and long face. It's a bit larger than the foal.
Everything but the kitchen sink!
Some prickly pear cactus on an old steel wheel.
Deer
Cow skull
I've not met the guy, but he is there in Desert Gardens every year. Such a skilled artisan! I can stand there for hours just looking at his art.

Cool beans Jean. Note the star on the horse's forehead.

James, I can see you doing this type of thing (in your spare time, lol). You probably already have all the metal pieces you'd need, down in the south forty. Just collect all your parts, get a vision, do a little planning, cut it up, put it all together, hit it with the welder and do a little grinding/finish work. Natural rust for a patina, nothing fancy.
I am just awestruck whenever I see this guys work.

That folk art is always a stop for me. His is exceptional. There is a guy in Thailand that does martian monsters that are giant and so heavy. Like they have car engines in them. Art like that shows what the imagination can do.

Very cool artwork. I don't think I've ever seen those although they are hard to miss. That dog next to the horse is really lifelike sorta...lol.
