I know it's a girl because she's beautiful AND powerful, what should I call her... Like many, I prefer my girls dirty, so let's see her in action! You must be itching to flip that switch already!

you have much more patience then I do. I would have had that thing propped up on milk crates and working before the table was even complete. Nice looking piece of machinery. Having access to premium tools makes cabbing that much more enjoyable.

8" wheels? I see the motor for the saw on the left is it dual motor belt drive? Yup, they sell them with the motors included and it is a belt drive. I had to convince my father to loan me the money for her, so I'll need to get cabbing whenever time permits! Sometimes I go look at her and know how lucky I am. I dreamed about my own lapidary equipment from the first time I pressed a rock to a saw a year ago. I have always been a rockhound, but it never occurred to me to open them up. I took me a while to get up the nerve to take one of my treasures to the saw but when I did, I saw that there is a whole other side to rocks that I never realized existed. Thanks to this forum, I don't feel like such an oddity anymore, I have centuries of wisdom and experience at my fingers and the rocks I've never seen - it's been a dream come true!

greyfingers - no offense but that name doesn't quite do it for me, but thanks for the suggestion! I like Green Eyed Lady {thanks for the tunes} James, and the big green rock machine fits...

Wow, that's one mean green looking machine. Looking forward to seeing the cabs that come from her. I like seeing what's inside myself. I hope you open some up soon.

I have the same Covington saw in 10". You may want to use a towel to drape over the openings on the hood to control the mist.

That is really sweet Ed, thank you. I AM dirty Roller, but I guess that's what the mist is for , showers for rockhounds that can't leave their work=love

What a very nice setup, lucky you!!! Take lots of pics of it now, it will NEVER, EVER be this clean again, lol! Attempting to rack my brain (can you hear the gears grinding spinning?) and find an appropriate name for her.
PS - And I don't think you have enough rocks - yet!

Congrats, miander! I love your Covington combo (definitely a lean green machine!) and workbench that your husband made for you! She's a beauty!! Imagine it weighs a ton? Will you be working on it outside, and when do you think you'll have your water system set up so you may use it? If there's a Home Depot or Lowe's close to your home, you could probably find the parts needed for a water system. Looks like you've got lots of rocks that you've collected that are waiting on you to slab, cab and polish 'em! Looking forward to seeing your work and hope you enjoy it!! I've never used a lever lock drum before, and wondered when you give the drum a spin on the machine, if you'll please let me know how you like it. This past Christmas, Santa brought to me your machine's little sister, the Covington 8" grinder/polisher, and I have a time trying to add/remove a belt to the expanding drum, especially the resin belts. Thought that maybe the lever lock drum would be an easier way to go?
