Well, it's a bit embarrassing posting my crude attempt here with all the accomplished lovelies, but I got some incredible coral from JamesP {thank you thank you thank you} last night and I was immediately hit by a serious bug to create. So here's the result, I cheated with a glue on bail.

It is a very attractive free form. James' coral is some nice material to work with. I like how you left some natural look to it.

Glue-on bails are not cheating They're simple and functional. I like how you left the natural shape, very nice!

Glue on bails are just another means to an end, not cheating. Looks to me like you got some super shine on it. You are off and running with a very pretty piece. Jim

Nothing is wrong with glue on bails. That's all we do now. Friends and family like them. They're excited over the rock and that we found them out in our local desert. When we wrapped, it's like you signed up in giving a life time warranty in repairing them. That gets old real quick!

Not cheating at all! Very pretty, and love the colors seen in James' coral! Is it coral he collected in Florida?

That is a very excellent point and will stick to glue on's for family and friends, I like wire wrapping but it's expensive and so precise!

Thank you all for your nice comments, and feedback! I am just waiting for my cutting oil (and my fingernails to grow back) before.i start crankin' out the cabs and slabs . I have found that I hit breaks in my creativity so I can never take a rock and go through all the steps before I move onto something else...I select the material I want to work with and get it to a rough cab, and then I find myself putting it down and looking for something else to work on before I finish the first one. Does anyone else have this problem?

Does anyone else have this problem? Haha yeah I do that all the time... at any given time I've got probably 40 rocks domed and dopped - and I've completely lost interest in almost every one haha. It comes in cycles though - a few weeks or months later I go back and rediscover what excited me about the piece in the first place... or if it was destined to be a piece of crap anyway I take it off the dop and throw it in the "lost cabs" jar.
