What is this? My back yard in Orange County, Va. is LOADED with this. I have (hopefully) posted a raw and finished pic. It tumbles well but Titanium Dioxide polish gets in the cracks and even an Ultrasonic cleaner won't get it out! ( I know, I'll never use that junk again. Can ya' tell I r a newbie?) Thank you very much to anyone who can help. Happy Lapping and Safe Hounding to all!

Just my 2 cents worth...but it looks a lot like some of the rose quartz that I found in Québec Province, Canada.

Thank you both for your comments. It looks like it is shot throughout with rust. Kinda weird. When you manipulate the stone, it shows reflections sort of like Moonstone. However it is not moonstone either. There is supposed to still be lots of Placer Gold in this region and I can believe it as there is Quartz out the wazoo around here. I found a beautiful piece of Milky White quartz and can't wait to work it.

Here are some pieces that I attempted to tumble. Initially, they were two larger pieces but they became really fractured during the process, so I broke them up into smaller pieces. I'm not very successful with quartz.

Looks like massive quartz too me. Folks used to call it "bull quartz" up in the gold country where we had our ranch. The staining is usually due to included iron salts. We also had it stained blue by copper salts, and green by epidote or chlorite. Some was orange and had included mica flakes which made it aventurine quartz..Mel

Thank you all very much for your comments and kudos! This was part of my first batch and a 4 part process. Chicago Electric Tumbler (3A Knock-off, $28 after coupon) and Thumlers Tumble Grit Kit. 1st & 2nd tumbles were SiC (non-graded, coarse and medium) Unknown prepolish and DEFINITELY Titanium Dixode polish. Shine is very nice but there is a LOT of T/D in cracks and crevices. Batch #2 has been finished and mounted. Pictures of my home-made equipment and rock collection coming up soon. And PLEASE feel free to laugh, I do Every day! Thanks Again!

Also, lots of placer Gold still exists in this region(Orange Co. Va.)
