I'm new to this, and got through to the polish step; thanks for all the advice.
I'm not sure what it is; it was in a Thumler set of grit & polish. I'm wondering how to clean up the stuff most efficiently. It seems to adhere like crazy to everything in the neighborhood. Including me. Just soap?

You can add borax to the water and some floating plastic pellets to do a final burnish, that should get all of the polish off of your rocks.

Once polish dries out its a real bugger to clean up. I once bought a used tumbler that had dried polish on the outside. Used a stiff brush, soap and borax and plenty of elbow grease to clean it off which took some time.
It is best to clean up any polish spills or splashes right away. It'll turn to "cement" pretty fast. While its still wet a damp paper towel does a good job.
When taking rocks out of polish keep everything wet. Rinse out the barrel and liner ASAP. Rinse the rocks off by your preferred method but keep them wet. Then either clean the rocks individually with soap and toothbrush or do a burnish in your tumbler.
