I cabbed this one from an estate sale slab that was not labeled so if anyone can help with I.D. I would appreciate it. The material did not seem soft at all when cabbing but only took a satin shine even after 14,000 nova wheel. Thanks Chuck

This is a tough one. Could be many things. Maybe Grossular with Hessonite? They can form together. I've cut some Nephrites that look a little like this...More than likely this is an Eclogite with several different minerals. Possibly Epidote with ?? Did the slab this came from have a visible fracture? If so, do you remember what it looked like? That would help a bit with ID. Beautiful cab!

The slab was not much bigger then the cab and there were no fractures. We did a rock show yesterday and many people picked this one up and liked it but nobody could tell what it was. Chuck

Maybe Grossular with Hessonite? They can form together. Well maybe not together...they're different hues of the same species of garnet. Hessonite is brownish-red grossular. Grossular has the greatest color variation of any garnet species.
