Hi fellow RTHers...
Does anybody have advice on where to get decent cabochon backings? In particular, I'm looking for standard calibrated sizes. The particular request I'm trying to find right now is for earrings, connected with a standard hoop wire. Probably the hardest criteria is that it can't be sterling silver (or probably silver in general).
I've seen fairly generic cabochon mounts on etsy, but they are more for glass bead cabochons than fine jewelry. I suppose I could learn to do my own, but my interests are much more aligned towards the rock side of things than the metal-working.
Thanks for any advice! Jeff

They would be easy enough to fabricate yourself, but I understand where you are coming from, I am much the same. That said you can buy quality settings in Silver and Gold at commercial jewellery supply houses. These are the places that supply to the manufacturing jewellery trade so the stuff they have is good, and amazing in its diversity. How you find one close to you is a different matter, I guess you have taken the first step by asking here but you may need to ask a friendly local manufacturing jeweller or a local lapidary club.

What metal are you looking for? Tripps carries a pretty good selection of cab settings in both silver and gold; tripps.com/If you're looking for base metal settings I can't help.

Haven't ever purchased anything from them, but there are some cab settings (backings?) at topakomercantile.com, rxscram. Tripps is a good place to purchase settings, as gemfeller suggested.
