There have been lots of thunderegg posts lately, so I wanted to add one of my own. Texas has a few of its own varieties. I collected this one near the Palo Duro Canyon in North Texas.
I think the center area has a paw shape!

Pretty cool, what's the outside look like? Are those pretty rare in that area?

I would say they are rare only because collecting access is so limited. There may be lots of them on the State Park's lands, but those are going to stay there! I wish Texas would begin a permit policy and sell at least a limited amount of collecting permits.
Oh well. Just another good reason to go somewhere with more accessible public lands.

Being a relative newbie, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that first one in the original post is a septarian nodule. And a beauty at that. It has the looks of a septarian with the radiating pattern of crystal spikes from the center to the edge of the rock. But the one in your last post looks different than the first. So I'm confused. But what nice cyrstals in that last one!

Nice! I love geodes...what's funny about them (I've noticed) is that they can sometimes be ugly on the outside but hold a beautiful treasure on the inside! Cool
