Hello,
I posted this one before but these are better pics taken in sunlight. This rock is as hard as an agate and is heavy. It measures 2 1/2" long and 2 inches wide. Can anyone tell m what this might be? Really has me stumped

I'm going to bet its a piece of quartz. That red is iron oxidizing on the surface and near the surface. I keep picking up stuff like this, but am always disappointed when I examine closely or cut them open. Mind you river tumbled quartz is nice, but its not an agate in terms of being likely to take a polish. The surface irregularities suggest crystal structure rather than microcrystaline structure so thats why I'm leaning toward quartz. Just guessing on the basis of too little information. Tom
