I have seen this photo on the internet in a number of places. It seems to come back to this site and blog... I am completely taken by this stone and would love to know its origins. The woman who wrote the article doesn't seem to give credit to anybody for use of the photo, or discuss the origin of this particular rock. Anybody have any comments? I'd love to have one just like it. rock lust. I have seen lots of slabs before but I have not seen the outer surfaces polished and left as is like that on many. Maybe the outsides of most jaspers is not as pretty? input please!

Yep, very high grade crazy lace agate. Usually, now days, when it is very colorful, it is sold as "Laguna Lace" and demands prices about double that of regular crazy lace, maybe $8-$12 per pound.
"Agate" is sort of chalcedony with fancy patterns, inclusions, or colors. Plain chalcedony is just sort of clear to blueish or gray microcrystalline quartz. So, I guess you could say, all agate is composed of chalcedony but not all chalcedony is agate...Mel

snowmom Thunder69 was trying to give you my source!. The link is to his ebay store and today he has a few nice examples of red crazy lace. The stuff in your link is very high grade. His may or may not match up to that quality.
