Leaking barrels for 4 months have coarse ground guts out of bearing.ha Notice right side bearing is eaten out and shaft is no longer centered in hole. It ran w/little friction but sounded like a donkey screaming. Welcome to the south.

All is fine stephant. One bad bearing is all. The tumbler shafts slope down toward the end roller. All the slurry followed the shafts and visited the bearings on the downhill side. Easy to change side. A $16 bearing (1.5 inch shaft). Slurry has been getting on those bearings for 2 years and I just hose them down. The big barrels leak over a 5-10 day period to a nice thick slurry consistency. So I just let em roll.

Maybe a large plastic washer siliconed just before the bearing would keep some of the slurry off the seals?

Great idea stephant. These drip rings slide down a kayak paddle to keep your hands dry when paddling

No doubt you'll have it repaired and running like a champ in no time. Stephent's washer idea is a good one.

Warm the rocks and use hot water when charging the barrel. It will help keep pressure from building up and causing leaks. Are you tumbling obsidian or glass? They also tend to make barrels leak.

Haven't seen a bearing do that since the sawmill, slick shaft collar idea. Where do you get that big a bearing that cheap??? Larry
