You have 4 months to raise hell about it if you don't like it: www.occupythefcc.com/I personally don't see anything good coming out of what they are trying to do with the net. Perhaps some of you with cooler heads can make all of it sound like it's not as bad as it seems to me?

will it destroy the internet?
NO.
Will it make it suck?
Maybe
Part of what is going on is to close the free market in access, not to users but to providers like Netflix. Netflix is 50% of all internet traffic and the ISP's want to charge them for access to the clients. I am a free market guy, but this smells of "Big Corp" kind of BS making the barrier to entry very high for small enterprise.
I am mixed on this.
EDITED to add:
I believe this is an occasion when my opinion is insignificant and I await guidance from smarter people. Like CATO.

A cursory reading of CATO materials tells me "net neutrality" is a Randian misnomer. I mean that by pointing out there is nothing neutral about net neutrality. Instead it is government sticking it's nose into yet another market place it should not.

When I said destroy I basically meant screw up. You know.........kinda like some peoples insurance plans. That still has me on pins and needles but I don't care to go into details on that.
Maybe we should start a kickstarter campaign and hire a bunch of techies to build a satellite and have Russia put it in orbit for us and create our own ISP and let the FCC rot on the vine lol. There are already things going on like meshnets etc but I don't know much about them. Of course the FCC, or whoever, will probably try to regulate them out of existence but much like 3D printing the cat is already out of the bag there may not be much they can do about it.

Probably impossible to stop..
If they bring it to the courts, eventually it makes it's way up to John Roberts and
I'm guessing the current Supreme Court would love to Overturn Net Neutrality in the interest of Free Speech!

sounds like a free markets issue to me. If Netflix wants comcast to not throttle their pipeling, then they should help comcast pay the bandwidth bills. Or they could buy Comcast.
This is not a government issue. It's a free market issue.
