Had the opportunity yesterday to visit Bill at the Blue Crystal Mine in the La Sal mountains of Utah and do some digging in the tailings of his pit mine (for a fee of course ha ha ha) The place is littered with what they call "blueberries" or little concretions of azurite. Some more blue than others. The bigger ones are super rare and hard to come by these days You can also find the same thing with malachite. When we first got there I saw these two big pieces of clusters of malachite balls I even found a piece of agate that had some malachite growth on it. The guy said that was pretty rare Here are some of the bigger/nicer pieces of the azurite/malachite And then lastly some of the good malachite pieces. I'm still not sure how to tell the difference between malachite and chrysacolla when the malachite gets into that lighter green, but maybe one of yall could help me with that. Perhaps there is some kind of hybrid? Or I could be way off base. Again thanks for looking guys. Major props to my wife because our little baby girl is due in a few weeks and she still lets me go hounding on Saturdays until she comes

Those berries and your other finds are quite interesting. Thanks for posting. Will they polish up?

Oh how I WISH I knew how to tumble/polish these. The guy said they turn into dust when you tumble, but perhaps there is another way to polish them. When you break the balls open the blue gets darker and darker towards the center (you can see this a little bit in the second to last pic--the specimen on top is in two pieces). When the concretions get big enough they start forming geode pockets in the center (from what I observed) and they get gemmier.

How hard are they? DO they crush easily or are they somewhat hard? I may have a way to tumble polish them. Can you send a handful or two (Which I'll return) to test?

Remarkable. Alien. The colors are awesome, along with the shapes.
