Hello all. I'm on a holiday in England...and of course my rockhound "Spidey-Senses" we're still on. The group of stones of this type lined interior area closest to the fence of Wetheral train station, Cumbria. England. They probably came from a quarry...somewhere?? Sorry for the poor quality photos since I am using my camera phone. At first I thought they were chert/flint. But some of them came with that typical potmarked chalcedony rind. 90% of these stones are HIGHLY translucent with light breaking it's way even through the rind. So folks...chert/flint or chalcedony?

Sure looks like agate/chalcedony to me. Jim

I am finding there are all sorts of degrees of that stuff with no clear dividing line between them, some have softer and harder spots throughout so could technically be a mix... probably only matters whether it takes cutting and polishing. They look like they'd shine up pretty nice. Please post a follow up and show us what you do with them! (before and after pics are my favorites)
