Howdy folks, Got back into the George West pet wood yesterday while the saw was running. Here are a few pics. Thanks for lookin.....Mel This one looked to be spectacular shrinkwood from the outside. Inside, not so much. Still, I love cutting this stuff to see what's inside. What shrinkwood is all about. This one is even prettier in person. Got four slabs and a specimen from it. couple of the slabs: Specimen, maybe palm shrinkwood: And finally, last slab before the power feed overheated and quit on me. This is supposed to be fairly rare and is called snakewood for obvious reasons. Only found in tropical America now but Texas used to be lots more jungle. Got three or four more slabs still this piece.

Got my cabbing eye bouncing looking at those fabulous slabs! I really like the snake wood, I could see it in a sterling belt buckle with and nice, thick black leather

Mark. I believe it's Piratinera guianensis, South American Snakewood. Again, I'm far from an expert and have no real books on this stuff so I'm only going on what a "expert" told me was the ID on this stuff. Could be the actual fossil of the actual wood species or on the other hand, some rockhound may have given it that common name due to the obvious snake scale like pattern.....Mel
