I'm planning to start cabbing again soon. I've been collecting rough and slabs for a long time mainly on ebay. Most of the stuff I am looking for now isn't very good or is too expensive. I got this for $26 delivered on ebay. 8 pounds. I was the only bidder. Did I luck out or am I missing something? Does needing a slab saw scare people off? My wife bought me a new 16" Covington saw 6 1/2 years ago and it is still in the box. I only had time to cab. I'm retiring in month and will set up the saw and start slabbing the rough I've accumulated over the years. It should be fun. I've haven't cabbed in over a year. I've taken long breaks before and I haven't had trouble regaining my modest skill level.

Some really nice dendritic action in that one – cab design possibilities everywhere!

Looks like one of the Owyhee Jasper varieties. Usually an excellent hard jasper and your piece has nice feathers and dendrites. Couple of bucks a pound seems a really good price to me and I see a lot of cabbing potential. I'd say you made a good score....Mel

I agree with Mel. It looks like a good piece of Owyhee Jasper to me too. And I would take all of that I could get for that price! Also I believe you will enjoy slabbing. Every slab is like opening another Christmas present. Sometimes you get really cool presents and sometimes you get like...well...socks. Larry C.

Some folks shy away from picture jasper that does not have scenes or blue color. I think the dense pattern can make nice non-scenic cabs that have an appealing abstract quality. The blue sky Owyhee can go for $20+, the Red Owyhee usually less. I think you got a great deal though. If the shipping was about $10, then you got the rough for $2/lb. That's a good price for jasper, and you actually got very hard densely patterned Owyhee with high contrast, so yeah - good score.

Yep, it's really nice Owyhee jasper and you got a great deal. It will cut cabs similar to this:

I like the blue scenic and the abstract scenes. Blue is going to be expensive. I bought some tumbled pieces that have blue an can be cabbed. I got this 1# piece a few years ago. More color and almost too much going on.
