Howdy folks, Well yesterday was the day of the duds. I guess all cutting days can't yield prizes but out of all the wood I sliced into, only a single decent one. Anyway, here are a few pics. More shrinkwood. Started my cuts from the wrong end as it was getting better as I got deeper in. First a couple of slabs: The end cut specimen left over: I've had tis little Rio Grande sitting by the saw for years, Had some interesting eyes and botryoidal bits showing. These are always near surprises inside. Looks like this one floated downstream from Woodward. Two slabs only.

Nice colors, it looks like there's agate and then some other form of quartz mixed in? Cool slabs.

bhiatt: What you are looking for there is "pocket rot wood" or alternatively, 'Dino Bone wood". Pretty scarce stuff and I've never found a really nice piece. Am lucky to find a piece of any quality once per trip. Of course, the way Matt Dillon works that area, I should consider myself lucky to find any *L*.....Mel

yeah all I have been able to come across so far is like 2 inch square slabs. Might just have to get one of them. They do seem hard to come across. Pretty cool looking wood.

I really really like the crystal formations in that Rio Grande stuff... even more dimension to an already active piece! The blues( light grey?) in the shrinkwood are cool, too!
