I have a chance to pick up an almost new D3100 with 18-55 lens for $250. anyone have experience with these? Are they decent for photographing shiny things like silver and polished rocks?

The D3100 is the discontinued model to the D3300. You can buy new D3100 with 18-55mm lense for $389. Camera body only $199 A used one with lense in like new condition under $300. Definately more than capable to shoot pictures of shiny things. Has more features than most of us will ever use. Stu

Hmmmm. Might not be bad and a darn site better than the 10 year old Sony DSC-H50 I'm using now. Shiny things cause it's little electronic brain to wig out and silver just looks dull and unattractive
