I have not had my tumblers running in many years. My new fiance took a liking to this so I started back. My question is we collected some great river rock that looks to be quartz in our area (North AL and Middle TN). I have run 3 loads and cannot seem to get it to polish. It is a smooth as a baby's butt but will not shine.
Here is what I did
1 week 60 GR 1 Week 120 Gr 1 Week 500 Gr 1 week ALuminium Oxide
I recharged and followed the way I used to do this but no luck.....any help out there ?
Thanks Dwight

Some rocks are just too soft to take a polish, but I would put them back in w/ the Al Ox & let them run two more weeks. You've got nothing to loose.

I can't get much of anything to look nice after only one week in 60/90. It's eye opening that most rocks seem to need three or more week long 60/90 runs.

Welcome back.
I'm with Rich ... back into polish for another week or two. I usually let my polish go for two to three weeks in a rotary. Usually I'll go 10 to 14 days in stages two and three as well. Feel like the grit breaks down further and gives a better finish.
