In mid December, I decided to clean my saw to get it ready for when the weather turned warmer. Just by bad fortune, I got sick right after the clean up. For several months after that I was unable to do anything so I had a clean saw. A little over a moth ago it looked like I would be able to resume slabbing on a very limited basis. Unfortunately, the day before I intended to fill the tank, my health decided it wasn't ready yet.
To make a long story shorter, I'm still not ready to start slabbing again but there may be light at the end of the tunnel. My question is, how long can oil be stored in the saw before it goes "bad" (if it ever does)? Even if I only get one more day that I'm able to slab again, I'd like to be ready. All I need to do is add the oil.

Mineral oil has a VERY long shelf life. Hope you get the saw ready and once clamped in let the saw do the work. As long as it is an auto feed of any type. Good luck!

Good that it's clean, I have noticed that when the saw has been stored for a long time with dirty oil the rock snot tends to settle to the bottom and petrify.

Mineral oil will store for years. The vegetable oil kind will spoil in the heat.
Hope you get to cut soon my friend................Tony

Yes, but at that point, often you can get underneath it and peel it out in one or two big chunks with less waste of oil. I have done this before and the crud was almost like a rubber/clay. Once the putty knife got under it, it was a cake walk.

Mark K No, I'm talking more than a week or so, I like the silly putty too. I'm talking jackhammer petrified. I'm not sure how long it takes since all the saws I have experienced this with were purchased that way.
