Here are some pre-tumble flint, chalcedony or whatever they may be from Wetheral train station. Cumbria England. Unfortunately, I need to get a new motor for my Lortone q-66.

No problem. Unlike electronic devices, I was able to gerry-rig my tumbler with a washer...or lack there of...to get it running (safely) again. It's hard to tell with this rubbish photo, but when I broke the piece with a hammer....interesting patterns did pop up. Especially with the brown ones.

Some of that looks like the true flint they used for flint lock guns. That also looks like the flint the British dumped on the barrier islands of Georgia. They used it for ship ballast. Blacks and browns with beige inclusions. Clear and glassy though dark in color. Very fracture free. Want you to finish so I can compare it. Apparently they used it to start fires on the ocean too. has a chalk coating.

James, that's what I noticed. To me at least, "flint" has never been pleasing to the eye. Although this stuff, which was littered throughout the English train station I was at, was very translucent and as you said fairly fracture free. It's currently in 60/90 now.

Really excited to see how these turn out! The one on the far left looks very promising.

I have polished local flint and found it takes a really high shine.
Good luck!

Thanks Ian. It seems as if I have fairly decent luck with fairly hard material. This stuff is definitely hard.
