Wow you are right! That material really bears a strong resemblance to Hector Hills chapenite, especially.....Mel

Nice find! I like the new way you're displaying you cabs, slabs and rough together - so artistic! How much of this chapenite type material did you hound?

I didn't pick up very much of it - probably three or four 1-2 lb rocks. That particular area seems as hard hit as most book locations are and I wasn't sure how this stuff would look inside because it didn't look like much from the outside. I'm pleasantly surprised - I love chappenite so it figures I would like this too.

That makes them all the more special . Not to get off the topic, but do you have any good ideas for me on rockhounding in New Mexico? I fear the fact that you mentioned, the book factor. I tried to post in the trips section for advise, but I didn't get any help there. Have you ever hounded in NM or Arizona? I am thankful for any input!!!

I've hunted a tiny bit in AZ but nowhere that wouldn't be in the books.

I agree, it reminds me of chapenite, too. Pretty stuff.

A lot of great material comes from that area of the Oregon/Nevada border, My father spent quite a bit of time up there in the 60's, it's great old country Best of luck to ya Tommy
