So, there's this business park about a mile from my home that has been in a state of construction limbo for over a year. The ground has been graded and drainage pipes have been laid, but that's it...Why is this relevant you ask? Because it's a rock and mineral paradise! All of the broken ground has exposed rock that is very much worth picking through. It's an awesome honey hole and I find a lot of my pretties there. Jade, Garnet, Wood, Chalcedony... There's also this seam of limestone where they've buried the drainage pipe and in many of these limestone specimens, Calcite, Aragonite, Agate, Chrysocolla and all kinds of other interesting minerals can be found. I've probably carried home several hundred pounds of this stuff to date. lol. Here's just what I've found this past weekend. Calcite, Bot Calcite, Aragonite: Calcite, Aragonite: Agate, Quartz, Muscovite: These are a couple of slabs from the above specimen, lightly tumbled for a day: Urban rockhounding at its finest! Thanks for looking.

wow, I can see why you have 100 lbs or more of this stuff! Each is unique and fascinating. Are you going to try to tumble or polish any of it? Should make some great slabs, but most seem to be specimens all by themselves. Hard to pick a favorite!

snowmom Yeah, I've got entirely too much of this stuff to be honest. lol. I'll probably keep a few specimens as 'shelf queens'. I'm not sure what I'll do with the rest. Perhaps I'll try to unload some of it...Anyone here have any success with tumbling Calcite? It's such a soft stone I'd think it would be a challenge.

it looks like you cleaned and polished the outsides of several of those quite nicely though.. I wondered too if anybody has tumbled it, maybe the polishing is enough. still pretty!

This is an awesome example of how a rockhound can find spectacular rocks, anywhere. I really love the history behind the finds, the rough and the final product! Thanks for sharing!
