My wife wanted the cab I cut a few weeks ago and her birthday is today so I started Monday and completed it last evening. This is the first time I had fabricated a pendant using copper and silver this large. I did have problems on soldering dissimilar metals together at the end because the copper would soak all the torch heat up and and burn off the flux before the silver was hot enough to flow the solder. By that time the copper had oxidized and wouldn't allow the silver solder to stick. The only way I found a way around my problem was to silver solder a small piece of silver to the copper base then solder the copper assembly to the silver backing plate. It's finished and while not perfect the wife was thrilled. Success!!!!!!!!!!!! 39don

Very nice! The 2 metals are perfect with the stone. I love the design. So, it is true about the difficulties of soldering copper and silver. I haven't tried it, yet.

Everything goes so well together. Wonderful piece!
Clever way to solve the copper and silver soldering situation. Will try it. Thanks for the idea.

Real nice looking pendant, everything fits together so well. My wife said "I want one like that". I have used pre-tinning of silver solder on dissimilar materials [different sort of projects] for a long time, works great.

That is very,VERY nice work!Your design is amazing to me and that cab is perfect! I've tried everything I know to stop the silver solder from leaching onto dissimilar metals but haven't had much luck at it. I've even tried tinning but maybe I'm doing something wrong?? I've even tried using Bic's White Out to "mask" areas I didn't want the solder to leach onto but I don't have a very steady hand so the masking was VERY difficult for me to do. There's GOT to be a way because I've seen it done here,,,,just have to figure out how! LOL

Awesome pendant! That was the first thing I tried to do, is solder different metals together. Didn't know it at the time that is was difficult to do that but my instructor made it happen for me. You did a great job combining everything, it all flows so well!

That is so pretty! Really nice composition. It makes the stone look like a framed painting for a museum.
