A buddy of mine sent me some pics of his find..It was found in PA, by his metal detector and its heavy with crystals and wood showing on it,plus copper minerals..Odd ball for sure.. Any ID on this guy??? Quote "Hey buddy check out what I dug up ! My metal detector went nuts ! This thing is about 6" long and about 31/2" wide and wght. about 3 freak'n pounds ! When I cleaned it up, it appears to have pet. wood in it and the darker stuff looks like carbonized wood that is still soft ! I also see some pyrite in it. Would the green be copper ore ? " Quote Quote "I have no idea how it ended up in my landlord's front yard under 4 inches of soil ! I cleaned it up some and will take some better picks for you to look at. I have never seen anything like this with the wood graining mixed in with the copper like that. And , man is it heavy...non-magnetic,and gives one hell of a strong ,crazy signal on the detector!" Quote Quote "You should see the black carbonized wood embedded in this thing ! When I have a chance, i'll take some closer pics." Quote

Just a guess, but I'm thinking that the copper is replacing the wood. Probably not from the area where it was found. I'd gues it was part of someones rock garden a long time ago. Shame it was moved from its original location. In another couple million years some future rochound would have found a beautiful copper pet wood. Still a neat piece, and a keeper for sure.
