Earlier this year we went camping near Roosevelt Lake in southern Arizona. While out for a walk with the dog I was quickly weighing myself down with every pretty rock I spotted, as were my husband and kids. When we got back to where the trailer was parked my dog decided he wanted to pick out a rock too and started digging one out. I soon realised it had a lavender color to it. I got it home and cut a slice off to go in the next vibe batch. I'm trying to figure out what it is so I can make jewelry to sell with it. It looks like some of the Burro Creek I've seen, but it was not found anywhere near Burro Creek, and it seems to be a touchy subject to call anything purple from AZ Burro Creek so... What do you all think? It looks more purple in natural light, but the sun is hiding today. It has "sparkles" in it (forgive my layman's term, I do try to know all of the terms, but I tend to forget them when I need them...) Ronan also dug up a very similar piece that is light blue. I haven't polished any of it yet, but I assume they are related since they look the same and came from the same 20 sq ft.

Evening.. My guess would be based on the main stone behind your tumbled version.. because of the main stones texture and chalky appearance.. I'd have to say it's a form of Aventurine..

How about Lepidolite? sounds like it if any are found in the area!

That's what I was thinking at first glance. I've never heard of purple Aventurine?

That's it I think. So the blue one would be quartzite as well? I knew it wasn't Burro Creek. It was just the only lavender rock I had heard of coming from my neck of the woods. I have actually found a couple of pieces that I think are Burro across the hwy from the creek (at least that's where my GPS said I was).

So... is Aventurine a type of quartzite? Can I sell this as aventurine? Judging by a quick google search, I wouldn't be the first, but I don't like to mislead... It does have the "aventurescence" sparkle in it...

With any mineral identification, if one wants to be spot on.. one would have to touch and test the stone.. After doing a search myself.. (and yes there can different varieties of colors for nearly all stones) I'm still leaning towards a "pale pink/purple aventurine" again this is based on the above image.. if you were to compare this to a pale pink/purple quartzite.. it would be very close to the color of the amethyst. (North American not the Brazilian) To many factors lead me to saying aventurine.. and the only way to know for sure is have it tested or seen by a gemologist, which I'm not.

I think you're right. It behaves like aventurine in the tumbler, with the corners turning white. I feel comfortable calling it Aventurine. I saw no mention of quartzite having the metallic sparkle, and that's what makes aventurine unique (at least the most identifiable thing). Thank you everyone for your help on this! I have a gem book that even has agates and jaspers, but it only mentions aventurine, there are no pictures.

My knee jerk reaction was also aventurine. It has all the earmarks, despite the unusual hue.
