My wife had to clear out the last of her surviving (well, not really - he's dead now) brother's belongings. There was a lot to share among a bunch of people and not much that interested her.
However, she found a largish pile of palmwood mostly buried close to the shotgun house (the property is located about 10 miles from the closest road, hence the "dueling banjo" title). She had help gathering the rocks, approximately 150-200 lbs of what I consider to be choice examples and put it in the trunk of the car to bring home. I didn't see any of it last night when she arrived home but definitely heard the commotion early this morning while I was still in bed and she was cleaning the rocks. She just couldn't wait. She isn't sure what she wants to do with the rocks as they are in great shape and appear to average above seven lbs each, some over 15. If my health was better, I'd slab and polish them, that that's not going to happen for awhile.
I'm going to try to ascertain a fair price for the wood and then go from there. She is a pack rat so who knows what will happen to the rocks. Also, her brother was a master carpenter and made some to scale renditions of a 5th wheel RV and P/U and a flat bed trailer on which is a bulldozer. These are both about 2' or more in length and the finished work is exceptional. I have no idea where to try to sell these but they should be worth several hundred dollars each to the appropriate buyer.
I know the old expression about no pictures then it doesn't exist. All I'll say is that when any of you get stage four lung cancer and are able to move around and do anything, maybe we can work something out. In the meantime, my wife will continue to clean them and then maybe we can take a picture of two. I'd sure hate to see these pieces of palmwood just be wasted in my rock pile, but that may very well be the case.
