It seems to have bark or rough exterior, like pet wood or worn tube agate? The inside seems like bone to me (but somebody who knows bone will have a better idea than me... it seems like it must be all silicated, and so smooth with no grain...not a quartzor quartzite....... could it be a replacement cast of some sort of wood??? Azgnoinc posted something with a similar interior a while back, it was slightly pink, I think. will look for the link to that one to see if anybody ever named it, and link it here.

the above doesn't show what the exterior looks like but if you think about all those tubes worn by weather, waves and glaciers, would the exterior look something like the white stone in question?
OK, somebody has the answer...

hey walt, it looks to me like coral...possibly favosite. those vertical lines along the outer calcite crust seeem like possible corrallite growth. the polished bottom suggests the same to me.

I knew somebody would have some ideas...
I found this photo, says they got up to 3 meters, so the size of the thing could be right. doesn't the texture on it look a lot like the texture in places in this photo.
