It's very rare that I can spend all day cabbing if I want - as it is I only lasted about seven hours before getting worn out and hurting hands, neck etc. A couple of McDermitt Purple Cow's to start off of course Feather Ridge plume agate Unknown - golden mossy plume agate brecciated jasper haha. It's got a lot going on. Montana agate - this damn thing has been the bain of my existence since I started it six months ago. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong to the point of weirdness ... it's like the stone has a curse on it haha. It's been dopped probably four times. It was twice the size and thickness when I started it. Last but not least a rather boring Bruneau Jasper bloated oval.

Good golly those Purple Cows are awful nice! Your unknown looks to be Arizona Bloody Basin Plume. Those platy/scaly type plumes are kind of indicative of the species as is the red/gold color scheme and it often does grade into moss agate. Here are a couple of cabs for comparison.....Mel

You didn't waste your time on that Montana. It's primo! Ditto the purple cow -- those are pretty stones.
I won't argue with Mel's ID of your unknown, but it sure looks like some Idaho Beacon Hill nodules as well. I used to call them "paisley" patterns with very similar colors.

Love that Montana- it is what it wanted to be. You are exactly right - it has a mind of it's own and the mind is possessed by the devil haha. I can't even look at it without scratching it. This is the stone that convinced me my beloved well-worn 600 grit nova was contaminated so I bought a new one. It fell off the dop NUMEROUS times, back and forth from the upper grits down to the grinders NUMEROUS times to the point where I got sick of it and tossed it in the scrap pile five months ago. Yesterday I decided to try to finish it and it was more of the same. When I finally had it perfect I was cleaning it for the photos with a glasses cleaning cloth and the cloth SCRATCHED it terribly! arrggg...

Lordy! I've had a few like that myself. In fact, I have a malachite and a chrysocolla waiting for some more of my limited patience. You did a great job with that MA, no matter how stubborn it was. You won!

Damn you and your Purple Cow! I love that stuff and I'm going to have to drive a thousand miles and get some!
Very nice job on all of those. And, by gawd, I'll get to McDermitt before another year is gone.
