Anyone know what the heck this is? Found in Lake Michigan..the color in the pic is pretty accurate. Maybe a 6 on Mohs...rough estimate. Kinda messy like hematite.

I belive I tumbled something just like that once but waaaaaaay smaller and picked up here in wyo. So im curious to hear what it is to ? Do the specks vary from deep red to a lite almost orange ish ? And seems to have a nice depth ? Sorry on phone so pics are small for me

No orange. I would say grey, maroon, and red specks mostly.

From that picture, I'd say I'm a big fan of granular jasper and hematite. That's cool!

I occasionally find small pieces of that in the road gravel around here. It will tumble nice as long as you don't put harder materials in with it. The little balls of hematite will polish a bright silver color. Haven't found any around here to try cabbing it. My guess is that it would cab nice if you use a light touch on the wheels, but would undercut if you get heavy handed.

Yep, hematite rich jaspelite with orbs/speckles instead of banding. One of our members sent me some samples couple of years ago. Tumbled some and it took a nice polish.....Mel
