I really look forward to weekends... lots of people check their tumblers and show off the results over the weekend. lots of people go on trips and share the photos of their finds lots of people take pictures of their purchases and post them lots of people work on cabs, wraps, or other creations and post them... lots to look forward to. What did you do this weekend? ( I went for a long walk on the beach and just incidentally happened to pick up a few rocks.. the lake was making lots of noise, just the way I like it best)

Weekends for me are busy times. Go on long horseback rides here on the ranch with a couple buddies and my wife on Fridays and Sundays and Saturday morning help the wrangler with the novice trail rides or lead the trail ride if the wrangler is unfamiliar with a certain trail ( we have more than 30 miles of trails) or if it's spider season. She's an arachnophobe so if I lead rides, I get to break the spider webs across the trail *L*. I do change out my tumbler on weekends but it's in coarse grind mode now so take forever to round them hard rocks up. Almost got me a UV-10 load though. Won't be long now till I finish a new batch. I also usually do my shop tours for the kiddies on weekends but today had some grownups with some crystals they wanted identified. That worked out super well. They have a 20,000 acre spread right by the Rio Grande, right in the middle of the agate zone and invited me to go for a fieldtrip this winter...Mel

I got a happy ending story! Yesterday a rock hound dog --I mean a skittish, obviously abused, undernourished, timid, 5 month old dog camped out under my truck. He wouldn’t come out to me.
I fed him and water. Man was he hungry& thirsty. He did come up sniff my hand. But I didn’t want to grab him and frighten him off.
At night he was still under there. But about 2 in the morning he was gone. That concerned me. So this morning I drove around and found him under another abandoned vehicle. I enticed him out with some food and grabbed him. He was mellow. I carried him to the car and took the pup to Adoption Center. They were really cool place. T hey will not euthanize the dog or give it to a place that will. They’ll find a home for him. Regardless the dog in a much better place tonight. And that ROCKS

Mel, I appreciate the trail ride spider web reference, that used to be my job on rides, too, but because I am an arachniphobe too and the others thought it was fun to watch! (you know the quality of your friends by the harassment you receive) Ed, good work, I love a story with a happy ending... good on you for your rescue efforts. That little guy will make somebody a great friend.

Bummer weekend. Car show was cancelled due to heavy rain. All of the cleaning and polishing of my rod was for nothing. Couldn't haul the saw outside due to the same rain. No slabbing this weekend. Just sitting at home watching the Simpsons marathon and drinking coffee.

Don't have anything to show yet.
Saturday, worked on cleaning the Genie wheels. The agate and the obsidian are the best cleaners! Prepared the setup to make variation of the wampidy type ring. Evening, we had dinner at a daughter's home with her and her friend, then we all watched Zorro, the Disney 1960 version. Great movie! Home by 10pm.
Today, will work on those rings and a cab I'm trimming to set. Garden always needs something, too. Will make peach coffeecake with streusel topping with the last of our peach crop.
Looking forward to it, but first coffee and the newspaper, then breakfast in the back yard. Important to start the day right!

Not much excitement at my place. I am in the process of building on two rooms. Cement and concrete blocks for the foundation. Fun in the sun. I do plan on checking my tumblers sometime today. Now it is nap time. James

Be sure to post pics for us. mohs (Mr.Mohs) great job on saving that dog's life!!!! Myself, I am changing out a coarse tumble load, doing some business work, went to the U.S. Air Force Jazz Band concert (excellent, highly recommended), I got to go out and shoot a round of sporting clays, and b-b-q'ed some burgers. A nice walk for exercise tonight and it will be a good weekend. Next weekend hopefully a trip to McDermitt

Friday- Worked on shop building that is destined someday to be our lap shop. Trimmed around house and moved stuff away from walls. Saturday- Went to Home Despot (sp. intentional) to rent power washer. Returned to HD because they sent it out with the wrong hose and gun. Got the right hose and gun. Power washed house, driveway, pissed off lots of wasps but thankfully no stings, also no wasp nests. Returned power washer and had the ribs that had been slow cooking, yumm. Sunday- Church Clean 14" saw Start digging out materials for the rock hound retreat next weekend.
Life is good

Yesterday I had a non rock hounding couple from Vermont stop by on their way home to pick up a chunk of obsidian for his nephew for flintknapping. Had a blast with them and they are coming back next summer for a rock hounding trip, I think they will probably be showing up here within a month or two!
Today Mike and I unloaded the big trailer so we can go pick up an estate this week, gonna be a fun week I think! We got tired of sorting so we added about 4 more ton to the $1 pile. (I even found a nice chunk of Morrisonite in one of the backhoe buckets that we dumped into the $1 pile) Set aside about 10 five gallon buckets of tumbling rough, look for a good sale here in the near future. Found a nice full round opalized log that is about 3 feet long today too, I did set it aside. No pictures, I didn't even think about it.
Looking forward to the trip coming up.
Tony

My weekends are usually full now with my wife...She works from Sunday night to Wed. Mornings full time taking care of disabled people,at their homes..(hard to see her gone for 3 days, but it works out for us.)... So I plan Mondays and Tuesdays for my weekends now..I get my stuff done while she is away...I do hear my rock saw calling my name though,it's been awhile since I have cut any rocks..

Rained Saturday, spent most of the time trying to clean and organize the shop. That job will probably be done when I die and they just haul all my junk out and bury it. Today woke up to fresh snow on Carter mountain when the clouds lifted. Picked peas, beans, carrots, kohlrabi, tomatoes, peppers, mowed the lawn, messed around in the shop some more trying to get things caught up. Did get a few slabs cut and a few preforms whittled out. Oh yeah, cleaned chimney on the house Friday, still need to do the shop chimney. Wish I could go to McDermitt next week but don't see it happening.

I went rock hunting this weekend, but normally catching up w/chores and resting. Always something to do. Try to mix it up and keep things mowed and stuff running. Summer busy. Winter and fall not.

I hear your rock pile calling my name, LOL. Maybe a stop by for me on the way back from McDermitt? Are you going to McDermitt? If any of you get a chance to "rockhound" Tony's rock pile, don't miss it. Talk about a treasure hunt, and a bargain. Also serves to remind you how big your rock pile can get if you don't watch yourself, LOL. I love it.
