Probably been asked before.
I keep mine in a baggie and that is sub-optimal.
I would like to easily show them and keep them from knocking into one another.

I keep them under glass in ryker cases. the cabs do not really stay in their location if bumped though. They do stay clean and dust free. 12 x 16 ryker casesChuck

I keep mine in 8x12 Rykers. That size box is easy to handle. Mine are arranged face up. My goal is to get them sorted by type of material. I have over 2000 cabs stored in over 50 boxes. They aren't being displayed, just stored. I take out a box when I want to look at one. If I ever got a good photography set up. I would photograph all of the ones worth photographing and look at them on a computer. I grow roses and take pictures of the blooms. The pictures last a lot longer.

I keep them in ryker boxes until I set them or wrap them for jewelry.

Dang, baggies for me. I find them easy to label and store in a big bin used for scrap book paper. It's large and shallow. However, I do have my personal stash collection that I would like to get into some gem trays that I have. I just need some more tops.
edited to add that gem trays stack and are are cheap plus you can put that craft store pillow stuffing in them. It separates in layers. Plexiglas covers are harder to find.

I like these compartmentalized rikers used for Zippo lighter collectors. They come with other compartment sizes too....Mel

The Johnson Bros. price is very good -- guess I'll have to order some. I'd much prefer to find a source for the wooden/glass-topped ones I've used for years but they seem to have vanished from the market. They came unfinished but an afternoon with stain and some varnish improved the looks. I'm going to see if I can find someone to make a bunch. 12.5 x 8.5-inches 8.5 x 6.5 inches

I'm a woodworker,so my next project will be to build a display box from oak..My brother in laws (2) work for a glass company,so I get my glass pretty cheap... Great looking boxes all..............I think I bought mine at the local rock shows..... I also use these wood tool boxes for my collection display....(Lots of room and looks great)...

Yes, it's nearly all natural. There are a few treated pieces but it's mostly untreated Carico Lake and Morenci.

I was at a flea market in Tennessee and ran up on a guy selling these wood boxes. I purchased 3 @ $12ea cause I couldn't make them for anyway near that price. I need to get more.......... 39don PS. They came with sponge as a filler, I cut me a paper towel to cover the sponge. The pressure against the glass holds the cabs in place but some smaller ones still move.

wow, a consensus(if only congress were this easy) Thanks for your input Sorry, but it wasn't a consensus. I don't use mounts. HOWEVER, I am ready to do so. Went pricing riker mounts at Johnson's. Great deals, but they charge 3% for a credit/debit card and won't tell you shipping costs until it is shipped. What the hell?
