My daughter found this a few months ago. I'd really like to know what it is. Thanks, Andrea

Steve….it weighs a little over a pound…so I would say normal weight not light for the size. It was found in Woodruff, AZ not far from the petrified forest.
Thanks for the response.

around here we call those stink stone! It is some sort of rhyolite or basalt mixed rock (here) which had lots of sulfur gas in it as it formed, thus the little pockets everywhere as the bubbles burst. Some bubbles are still trapped inside the rock and when the rock is cut it releases the gas, sulfur stinks. Don't know if that is what yours is, but it sure looks like it! You could always have somebody cut it to see. Interesting to look at just like that though, isn't it? I have one sitting on a shelf in my living room as a specimen just because it is interesting.

It's a petrified luffa sponge. duh Now, if you can just find a petrified Soap on a Rope you'll be rich!

Yes snowman it is interesting to look at. Part of me wants to cut it to see what's inside. The other part of me wants to leave it whole. For now I will put it on my rock shelf.
Captbob, I think you're right. Next time I go up there I will look for the soap...lol. Love your penguins!!
Thanks, Andrea
