vibration but it still runs ok. does anyone have experience in running their noisy lotto's? I got a new motor from the rock shed but am interested in how long the noise motor will keep working so I haven't changed the motor yet. chas

I've only had 1 motor burn out on one of my Lot-O's and when it died,,,it just died. If yours is making a noise I would imagine it's the bearings so when they seize up the motor will more then likely get hot an shut down. My motor ran just about all the time for about 10 years. How long has your motor been in use? connrock

The bolts will get loose in the motor and mine broke the frame from rhe excess vibration and then threw the sludge and rocks everywhere plus the fans hit stuff and broke up! What a wreck. So stop now and check the bolts in the motor and also for broken springs too.

the noisy one has been running for about 3 or 4 years. I have replaced a motor on another lotto I bought from a friend. it ran a few weeks and then the motor burned out. it has been quiet since I replaced the motor last fall. I did check the connections from the motor to the frame and I don't see any broken springs. I have replaced springs in the past and have spares on hand. chas

Dave.food for thought.someone needs to fabricate a single barrel 15 lb lotto

The Lot-O frames are guaranteed for life. One of my frames cracked and I sent it back. They sent me a new frame mounted on a new board. connrock

Seems like 3 years is a long time.

My Lot-O is only about three years old, but I only run it about every month or two, so it hasn't had much use. Mine has started to make a louder vibration noise at times, but other times it's just as quiet as ever. I've tried to find where the vibration noise is coming from, but everything seems tight and the springs aren't broken. It's not real loud, but I notice the difference.

I just broke a spring when my fans were hit and knocked out of sync, one weight at 6 PM and the other at 10 PM, talk about some crazy vibrations LOL Damn thing was doing circles on the floor However, I was on the phone with Tom (the manufacturer) at the time of discovery and he said he was going to pop a spring kit in the mail to me that day so hopefully will have a freshly "sprung" Lot-O-Tumbler in the next few days.

James I think it's the luck of the draw with these small motors especially today when a lot of them are made overseas. Some are shot in no time while others take a lickin and keep on tickin. connrock

Jugglerguy,,,A light load will make the unit sound a lot different then if it's loaded properly. This can happen when using a lot of ceramic media as the media doesn't weight the same as that amount of small rocks does. connrock

Connrock, I've had it happen with the same load from one day to the next. It may be that it's more likely to happen with a light load though. I always fill it up, but I hadn't thought about the ceramic being lighter.

Hey Jugglerguy, do you weigh your loads out, or just do like I do on the obsidian and stuff the barrel with ceramics then add the however many pieces of Ob that you are running at the time to the top of the barrel?

I never weigh any of my rocks. I put the rocks in the Lot-O barrel and then add ceramics to fill it up.

I have ceramics that I use in my tumblers. I have plenty of rocks to fill the lot-o. what benefit would I get using ceramics and less rocks? or what step in the polishing process should I use the ceramics. I am using ceramics in my polishing process in the tumblers so that the rocks don't get chipped on the edges because of falling together. the ceramics certainly help in that situation. chas

Charles,,,the reasons for using ceramic media is,in some cases,to help cushion the load and another reason is so that the ceramic media gets onto every surface of the rocks being polished or ground with grit. The more "surface contact" you have the more the grit/polish will be in contact with the rocks you're doing. When ceramic media is used as a "filler" it helps the rocks from not hitting each other, causing chips.etc, and "cushions" the load. connrock
