Hi everyone!
I went back to Plush Oregon last weekend to look for some more sunstones...left on a Thursday and drove all the way to Plush I visited the spectrum mines where I did the belt run and did some freestyle digging at their pit. during the AM hours I walked all around the surrounding area and picked up more sunstones that way. I also visited the Double Eagle mine where I screened from a pile of virgin ore for about 6 hours or so. both crews at these mines were very friendly and goes out of their way to make sure your experience is a good one...I did very well this trip...almost 14 lbs of sunstones total....I picked out the largest crystals from the lot cause they are easier to picked out but still have majority of the crystals to go through...I found lots of shiller from the spectrum mine this trip...I would say 15 to mebbe 20 percent were colored crystals from that mine...on the way back i stopped at crater lake in Klamath falls to relax and take in the views...incredible countryside out there!!! anywho...enjoy the pictures...hopefully someday some fellow rockhounders from this forum will join me on these trips!!!
from the spectrum mine I still have to go thru these almost 10 lbs to go
best ones I've sorted so far..almost 1400 cts
largest crystal from spectrum mines
5 of the largest crystals from spectrum
from the double eagle...almost 3 lbs
largest crystals from the trip was from the double eagle...the mine owner appraised it to cut into a 10-15 carat stone if I have it faceted
largest shiller from the spectrum mine
the following pictures are of crater lake..aside from rockhounding the other hobby I have is photography...
view of mt Shasta
that's all folks! thank you for looking...

Wow very nice report Joe! Beautiful scenery pictures too! I would love to join you up there some day - we are always searching for new adventures.
If I may ask what do you do with the sunstones?

Very nice, Joe. Love the sunstones! Crater Lake one of the few places I have visited in Oregon, it's beautiful. Hiked down the switchbacks that give the only access to the lake to do some fishing. That water is COLD. The fish were there, got some hits, but did not catch anything. Then had to climb back up that hill...

Awesome report Joe. We definitely want to make it over that way within the next year. I will ping you if and when we get a plan or hit me up if you line up another trip. We are always game for a road trip and hounding. Cheers.

Great report Joe, I still need to post my trip report from this summer when we went through plush and stayed on the coast.
I'm going back for sure, but the drive is a killer from Eastern Colorado, so we'll have to see about coordinating a trip next summer.

Looks like you did well at the mines, fun stuff from a really unique place. We like looking up at night when there, no light pollution at all, sky is impressive. Always enjoy Crater Lake pics., great place. Been by Shasta a couple times, at night. Thanks for the show.

You had some good pickin's on the sun stones. Went to Crater Lake on a fast trip to the coast and back quite a few years ago with some friends. Okay, we thought it would be a fast trip-55 mph the whole length of Oregon isn't fast. Great pics, that is some pretty country around there.
