Well I decided I would make a thread hereto post some photos of alaskan material I cut. Some I found some was given to me by friends when they went in the mountains. Not all of it is able to be cabbed but it just looks cool as a slab. (i'll probably keep 1 and sell the rest at a craft fair i want to attend next year if i make enough pendants) Currently i am only cutting my large stuff (or stuff i have a lot of) with my sinthered blade on (which is thick) on my 16 inch gravity fed saw. These are some of last weeks cuts. The agate is the best one ive found so far. I know some of this material probably isn't too great to material from the lower 48 but there is some good stuff. The slabs still have some oil on them which takes a while to drain / dry off. At least one thing i am cutting this week is a killer for jasper... from what ive cut its about 25% pyrite and bright red jasper (unusual, first ive seen like it). Some of the rocks the people i went hounding with thought were junk (they are use to extremely high quality stuff that i can't find yet) but it is what they were actually hoping to find. Anyway heres some pics. I will add more pics in replys as the slabs dry. Low quality rhyolite Dark jasper slab 1 Best agate to date i found

If the rhyolite is hard enough, I think it has a very nice pattern for cabs. The jasper has great color & patterns. I can't see enough of the last agate to tell for sure.

The jasper has some potential to turn into some nice cabachons. The agate slices you can cab or just flat lap them to sell.

Flat laps are good for showing high quality slabs.

Flat laps are good for showing high quality slabs. Yeah, I have some polishing pads that do the same, only they go on an angle girder (I use my drill). I can polish it up to 10,000 grit. I usually do this outside and now that winter has arrived I will have to find a way to do it indoors. It is quite messy and I like to use a constant mist of water for the lower grits. This is what they look like, they work great (different styles but still great).

This is a very thick slab (saving for my showcase) of highly unusual jasper metal combination. This is not wet.

That red really pops, I make at least a cab or two to display w/ the slab specimen.

The 2nd set of jasper is a rich red but not very bright unfortinitaly. A friend wants me to make them a red pendant out of Alaskan material so i'm cutting up all my jasper so I know what I have. The largest chunks have been cut.

Presuming that college is open tomorrow (freezing rain might shut it down) I'll be cleaning a whole bunch of slabs I cut last week... Maybe my others will be dry enough to clean also.
There are a few slabs in particular that I will be cabbing for a few different people on here.
