those are great! What a good batch of lace, nice variety. I love the color, too. Like the plume and backing work, makes it even more dramatic!

Some of those lace cabs are pure breed jawdroppers!
That unknown is also beautiful. Is the hardness uniform all over or does it vary with the colors?

Those are all really nice looking pieces... I really like the doublet too ... have not had a chance to try to make one yet.
After looking at yours, with the groove in it which I think is great, I have to ask this, for anyone that can answer it, ... What about putting the groove where the 2 pieces meet? seems to me that if you back cut the mating edges of the 2 pieces it would leave you with a natural groove to put the wire in?

Those are amazing cabs. Crazy lace might be my favorite rock.
I was wondering the same thing Mario was about putting the groove where the rocks come together. Did you avoid that spot because it's not as strong?

the only thing I can think of for not doing it is if the stone is too thin where they meet and as such a thick doublet bottom would be better for the groove.

Did you avoid that spot because it's not as strong? Thanks Jugglerguy and The Dad_OhsThe first issue I seen with putting the groove at the seam is that the graveyard cap has to be as thin as possible to get the see through effect. The second and more important issue is that if the groove was in between the layers or even right at the top of the obsidian then you would see the wire right through the graveyard portion. Chuck

Oh, I hadn't thought about the purpose of making a doublet in the first place. I guess the transparency part is an important thing do consider. Maybe you should make a doublet out of that optical quartz cab so it doesn't look like a wrap around nothing.

Thanks all. I wish I could afford to cab this quality of material all of the time.
