I have no idea what this stuff is, but I believe the rocks shown are all the same stuff. from left to right and top to bottom the stuff shown is denser and more mixed and melted looking until at the bottom far right the rock is somewhat granular appearing on the exterior matrix. I imagine perhaps the cooling time of the rock in question had something to do with whether crystals grew or not. The second photo (obviously) shows the interior of one of the more crystalized esterior type of these rocks. I find these locally and though they are not extremely common, they do show up regularly where I hunt for rocks. I Have been doing an inventory and sorting by type of rock when I realized I had some more melted, mixed stuff that seemed to be made of the same mineral but different textures. ID welcome, I have seen them described as olivine/epidote, feldspar in basalt, feldspar and epidote ; There are not many pictures of them on the internet that I can find, but I don't know its name to do a proper search, I just know they are very smooth and dense and I like the look of the one we cut! thanks for looking!

(snowmom) It looks like a porphyry to me, but there are so many variations in the porphyries that I couldn't nail it down to one type. I have an andesite porphyry dike exposed on one of my mining claims that looks similar to a couple of your specimens, but the andesite is green with black inclusions. Robert.

could we see more of this one? I have my feelings on what it is, but need to see more before I speak.
