So yesterday I dragged the old FranTom unit into my "stupid room" (a room in the shop that I can keep warm, and where I go to work on stupid projects) and sawed out a few preforms. Really had other things I need to do but it'll warm up a bit here in a few days-I hope. So this afternoon I ground out a few cabs for practice. If you've seen my tumble pictures this is the same deal. All local (within a couple of hours) to us, self collected. Not much sense in wasting expensive rocks on my lack of talent. This is mostly to show off some of our local rocks, the cabs aren't that great. In my defense this is about half of my total cab production to date. With winter here I should have time to play with this stuff some more and maybe figure out what I'm doing. This was an end cut I thought I'd try to do something with. This, I think, is actually some nice material in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing. This was also the last stone and I was hurrying to get done. Hurrying never works. Same stone backlit (poor picture). I'm seeing scratches, flat spots, and all kinds of horribleness. Can only get better, eh? Thanks for looking. Russ

those are your poor material? Can't wait to see the 'good stuff'. They all have a great deal of interesting factor... Jugglerguy just introduced me to cab making (thank you,Rob) and I better perceive the practice and skill it takes to make the beautiful treasures we see on the boards every day. Yours are looking good! (don't stop!)

Great choice of stone and you are doing pretty damn good for a beginner. And you are exactly right about getting in a rush. lol All it does is slow you down later.
I need to get back over there so we can do show and tell again since it is above zero now. First I probably should thaw out my sewer. Really looking forward to that. Jim
