Make sure you order something and then let us know how it went. Maybe we can pass the catalog around?

Those old catalogs are fun, but a little sad when looking at prices vs. todays, good score.

when you get it i have some question on a few items Roy, if the pages aren't too big for my scanner, I'll be happy to scan them in for folks. If they are too big, I'll try to get readable pics of them.

Gotta love old marketing materials. For us snake people it was mailed "price lists" that went out to buyers nationwide. Long before the internet sellers would fill their shops with new animals and then type up a big list with all kind of info, mail it out and take orders. I treasure those so I totally understand why you would want this. Nice work Don!

I have a couple of vintage catalogues as I presume others have as well. Perhaps we need a sticky thread or at least a well labeled one where folks could post who had what years of what catalogues for exchanging info. etc. I have an old Raytech catalogue (1980) and a Bet-roc Enterprises catalogue from 1972. Bet-Roc listed its catalogue as Rockhounding and Field Geology but had a wide array of lapidary equipment which appeared to be primarily of Lortone origin. I like old literature and grab it whenever I see it. Tom

Tony, Its a two page spread, complete with a tall slender model. No one in my lapidary group. I'll scan it later today and post. It appears to have the vice with the slanted front, that I've never seen a good photo of, but looks like a worth innovation for holding rocks down. Tom

Here is the Raytech 18" 2 page spread from the 1980 catalogue. I originally scanned as a pdf so if anyone wants the pdf files, they can PM me. Photobucket would not accept pdf uploads.

Cool. We need to get a special thread going, just for info like this.

So do we want a thread for scans of covers (hence source, date, and content guidance) and who owns said catalogue who could be consulted for pdf or jpg scans? Minimally folks could volunteer what literature they had to offer up if requested. Ideally some of the old stuff posted elsewhere (Cigarbox lapidary comes to mind could be linked or noted as well. Input? Tom

For now I'm just going to scan info that people ask for. But I'd like to see a whole section dedicated to vintage machines. We could scan complete catalogs and instruction manuals in. Then folks could just look up the info they needed. Looks like my HP catalog won't get here until early next week. PO in California has been dragging their heels. It just left San Francisco this morning. I also have the booklet that came with this type of old dop pot that I can scan in. Also have a lot of old Lapidary Journals from the 60's, 70's & early 80's with equipment info in them.

Dang, they must have gotten NASA to send the HP catalog. It just cleared sorting in Sioux Falls, and should be here tomorrow after all.

Those old catalogs are fun, but a little sad when looking at prices vs. todays, good score. Bet Don paid more for the catalog than it cost when new, too. (possibly it was free in those days!) good find.

Yup, sure did. But someone needs to preserve those old catalogs & instruction manuals.
