This video was produced in the town I live in and the area being explored is adjacent to my favorite rock hunting beach.

Thanks for sharing. I wish they had spent more time on the geology instead of the geologists.

disappointing, Cranbrook Institute has the actual films they took available to purchase on their website and at their gift store. They also have several other films in this series, most taken around here... I guess this could be considered more of a 'trailer' for the actual films.

Excellent information! However, the date 1897 must be a typo. Well worth the read!

Thanks for sharing. I wish they had spent more time on the geology instead of the geologists. I would have liked to see the dive. Especially after what they described. It was a teaser. Great Lakes a fine geological subject. I want to see the down under.

I'm a diver and would kill to explore the bottom of that lake. I remember flying into Chicago for the first time and being completely amazed that I couldn't see the far side of Lake Michigan from 1,000+ ft up in the air. Lakes seemingly the size of oceans. Truly impressive sight in person. Interesting Geology too. Thanks for sharing the video, Deb.

1dave Agreed- 1847 is more likely, as the maps date from that Era. they were already mining in the UP and surrounding areas for over 50 years by 1897.

I thought that had to be something recent. Those old timers knew a lot. With dumbing down our children in school, can they match what the old timers could figure out?
