POST-TRIP DISCUSSION ON LOCATIONS-ARIZONA
These are not in the order of the itinerary.
A WOODRUFF I got to this spot in the middle of the night and the truck was covered in mud. I almost got stranded, but kept moving and got to the site. Once there the site was way too muddy to consider so I took off again and got out just barely. I planned to come back at the end of the trip but never made it there.
B 61 ONYX ON FOREST ROAD 303 I got to the top of the hill and when I turned around I got stuck and had to hike out to find a ride to town to get a winch which barely got me out. Spent all day there and never even picked up a rock.
C 65 FLUORESCENTS AT THE AJAX MINE Never made it here because of the conditions.
D 79 PORPHYRY AT THE W.A. RANCH WELL It was easy to get here and the stuff is all over the place. I gathered a bucket or two and went to the next place.
E 85 FLUORESCENT CALCITE AT THE SUMMIT MINE As planned, I skipped this place.
F 87 FLUORESCENT MINERALS OFF U.S. ROUTE 80 The fluorescent minerals were all over the place here. I missed the mother lode in the dark, but still picked up plenty. I never found the chryso.
72 SELENITE ROSES EAST OF SAINT DAVID Never made it here because of the conditions.
58 GEODES AT CORRAL NUEVO The road was long and hard. I almost gave up and went back and elsewhere but I found the correct road and found the place. This is not the best geode spot despite what Bearce says.
14 GEODES EAST OF THE RAMSAY MINE I found a lot of geodes here and a bunch of mystery material that Bearce called obsidian in one of his LSD addled moments.
BRENDA I went to the gem spot and found that every bit of good gem is gone. Someone had removed the big deposit and a large amount of rock with it. Also, some ass-clown excavated the road up and now it is forever blocked unless someone fixes it which is unlikely due to there being nothing left there any way.
QUARTZITE Had a great 4 days here.
8 MALACHITE AT THE GREEN STREAK MINE I found a bunch of the gemmy augite and a spot where you can shovel chrysocolla tumble by the bucketful.
PLANET RANCH MINE Never made it here.
39 COPPER MINERALS AT THE CACTUS QUEEN MINE Never made it here.
7 MALACHITE AT THE GOLD HILL MINE This was a complete waste of time.
6 CHRYSOCOLLA ALONG THE RANKIN-LINCOLN RANCH ROAD This spot is more extensive than I thought at first, there are mines all over the place. I found a huge vein of good chyso and exploited it until I got sick of it.
18 COPPER MINERALS AT THE BULLARD MINE AREA I skipped ahead to go here as it was on the way to Q and I was ahead anyway. I went to what I thought was my spot and found that it was not the right spot. It was another mine that I never knew was there. I went through it and there was nothing of interest in it or around it. I backed out of there and accidently went all the way around the mountain. When I found my way out of the mess I accidently turned up onto the road to the actual Bullard Mine which was not where I wanted to be. The turnaround has a huge boulder in the middle of it so I was not able to turn around. I had to recon a way to back down until I could turn around safely. This was a real pain in the ass. After I got out of there I camped at the Smith Peak info area and went to the correct spot in the morning. I got the chunk of chryso out of the prospect that I have been working on for 5 years and a small chunk of the chunk that is part of the pillar that holds a big chunk of roof up. I went uphill and checked out a spot I saw on the sat images but there wasn’t squat there.
BURRO CREEK Never made it here
.42 FLUORESCENTS WEST OF MORRISTOWN Never made it here
U 30 BANDED JASPER OFF TABLE MESA ROAD Never made it here
PET WOOD NORTH OF HOLBROOK AND WINSLOW Never made it here
