I would just get the SR motor by itself and then buy the drums and discs and wheels you want from Rio.
Actually, I would get any hanging Foredom motor with a hand piece, including used or refurbished, and then by the accessories. I bought an off-brand 1/4hp one a few years ago for $75.

I use a foredom that has 5000 rpm, It has a lot of torque. The one i have that is high speed i got from harbor freight, if you buy from harbor freight you need to plug it in and put a drill bit in the hand piece, hold the bit up to something to see if its running true. I have used mine for 10 years but went through 6 or 7 of them to find one that runs true.

For jewelry, that model should do just fine. I use the 330TX model for gem carving work.

What Deb said I have two of the TX series as I do some heavier work with them on ocassion and the SR just wasn't quite hoss enough. If you want a Foredom, I know where there is a used one that could be had pretty cheap. Not sure of it's age, but the footpiece is metal instead of plastic like the current ones. I"m guessing $75 - $100 plus shipping would buy it and some mandrels, burrs and other goodies. I personally would test it so we would know it works as it should. It belonged to a Silversmith who passed a few months ago and I bought some of his equipment. I didn't need the Foredom, so I'm pretty sure his Sister still has it

Radio that sounds totally awesome!!! I would dearly appreciate it very much!!! are you in any hurry? His Sister can be difficult to get hold of. It took me almost 2 months to set a time to see the other equipment. I think it was an SR and pretty sure it had two handpieces in the box. if you do buy new, make certain a handpiece is included in the price. Many companies sell only the motor and handpieces are not included

No hurry on my part. As long as my Fire Mountain Gems rotary is working I'm good to go. Just thought I should consider upgrading. Also looking for a bench polisher. I gave the motor I was going to use to my brothers for polishing our lures because the one they had been using bit the dust. We manufacture saltwater fishing lures. Pour the resin for the heads into the mold then polish them & put them together with the skirts. No made in China stuff here.

I will try to contact her before the weekend and let you know as soon as I hear back. I was bummed because other family members made off with his casting equipment and that was what I really wanted
