jamesp, is it okay to use Cairo (please notice change of spelling, lol) Syrup in a rotary? Do ants sniff out your vibe in the summer months? J/K Have not heard of using corn starch. ?? Have you experimented corn starch? Thank you, garock! Do you have a collection of fine glasses like jamesp from the salvage shop there? jamesp, I deleted my question on another thread, but can the 2-step method be used in a rotary, or is it strickly for vibes?

Or were you talking about your skin color, lol?

I saw that Cairo/Karo comparison, I think Karo was created in New York. that settles that one Yes, corn starch is used by rock tumblers, and is highly rated. I believe it is used in a vibe. i don't think a 2 step is for the rotary Jan. The vibe can do so much with just 220 or 500 in a short time. Guessing the rotary would take a long time. You got to go to Robinson's, it is a different store.

How are these coming along? Should be about done by now, right? Yep. I put too many in the vibe. And the flat coral chips amalgamated in the center. So it set up a cylinder of chips in the center, and the pet wood chunks on the outside. All rolling homogeneously together with not much change of position. The folly of using too many flat chips in a vibe for filler. I rake them around in the morning and the afternoon to change their positions. So it slowed things down a bit. Is it possible that some of that wood has bug holes preserved in it ? I did sort of a two step on them too, so they may need to run a bit longer to break the grit down.

Bug holes? Yes, very possible. I know there are some with both bug holes and knots in the big pile of ho-hum pet wood out in the back yard, so could be some in those as well.

I find coral that is petrified with clam bore holes in it. They are my favorites. So would pet wood with insect holes. Meet pecky cypress. In this case a fungus eats the cavities out. High dollar lumber here in the south. Had it petrified, crystal/botryoidal cavities would have had a field day.

They are done ! photos taken in greenhouse which mutes the polish. Basically took a thin layer off with 80 grit and then AO 500 to polish. Preserved close to the way rockpickerforever found them. Just shinier. some set aside to tumble hard in the rotary. The center seems to have many features and colors when sawn. Solid wood. thanks Jean The whole batch Alien agate eggs with eyes that watch

I Really like that the natural surfaces were kept intact. Adds so much more dimension and interest. I'm going to have to try that approach.
