In the past two years I've gotten to know the owners of the Dust Devel Sunstone Mine near Plush, OR. Their booth is near mine in Tucson. This time, I brought home a parcel of cab grade sunstone. Not wanting to waste any, I decided to see how small of a cab I could cut. Here it is - .5 carat 4.7x6 mm. Anything smaller would not have fit on the dop stick. It's so small the little veil isn't visible. I'm surprised I didn't loose it polishing the back!

that is a tiny one! A tribute to your cab making skills. I love sunstone and all the feldspars. What will you do with it now?

Too cool! I have about 5 pounds of Sunstone from the Spectrum mine we gathered somewhere around '03 or '04. Most have schiller and a half pound or so are really nice ones. No watermelon though :-(

Pretty little sunstone cab, RocknCritter! It looks like it has a touch of schiller in it? The feldspars are one of my favorites, too, and a confusing bunch much like the garnet family.

Like the look of the Schiller ones, but this one is fantastic too. Kudos to the size. Sunstone is on my bucket-list. But unfortunately the price of material big enough for me to use in carving is not something I look forward to.

What a pretty little itty bitty. I would've lost it in the first five minutes.
