Well, the weather was pretty nice yesterday so we went out wandering around again, this time to a new spot we had visited a few weeks or so ago. That day we just grabbed a couple handfuls of rocks to see if they were worth bothering with. Decided some of that material was worth further investigation. Once we got to the site I knew that the rocks I was looking for were up the draw to the right, so I went left to see what was there since I hadn't been up that way before. Spent quite a while just walking around. Found some different stuff that I really wasn't expecting there. Did wind up with a few of the rocks I initially was after but still haven't taken any pictures of that material. Need to do a little slabbing and grinding yet. At any rate, here are a few pictures just for the heck of it.
Sandstone cliffs, not a great pic but if you look close you can see some cross bedding.
The rocks I was after are right up this draw here.
Took quite a few pictures of rocks in situ but this is the only one that didn't come out looking like dog crap.
I may be getting just a little smarter (we can always hope). The little handtruck isn't the greatest but it actually worked okay.
Filled the tubes with Slime and dodge the prickly pears as best I can. The pickup is visible just to the right of the low hill.
Since my rock pictures in the field didn't work out too well I took a few after we got home.
This blue stuff is fairly common and we find quite a lot of it. Most of it is really plain and blah, but nearly all of it that
we find is so fractured that it's not even fit for tumbling. Found some in this spot that seems pretty solid so I
grabbed a few chunks to play with.
Some of the other stuff.
When we were initially looking around we noticed that the hill near the pickup had been used as an informal little shooting range.
Cyndi started picking up bullets while I was messing around with rocks. I'd say she did pretty well, her mining yielded just over
10 pounds of lead. I'll melt it down and make it into new bullets.
Well I expect you all are going to get tired of my little reports if I don't stop. Thanks for looking.
