Has anyone here noticed in the movie "It's Complicated" (apart from the amazing performance of Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin) the eye-catching Labradorite pendant she is wearing in some scenes?

The web site sates "butterfly wing encased in hand carved crystal and 14k gold" and then it has "Real spiderweb encased in hand carved crystal and 14k gold" bluemorphojewelry.com/product/large-spiderweb-pendant/ My question is HOW? Are they just "sandwiching" the wing/web between or are they using an epoxy/resin to preserve then the sandwich? ? It looks nice, but HOW are they doing it?

that is really neat. We get to see blue morpho's several times a week around our cabin here in Panama. Beautful but how do the keep it from crumbling?

My aunt years ago would preserve butterflies as paperweights by resting the butterfly on a piece of felt and then putting them between a glass pane and a flat domed piece of glass. Then they were sealed around the edge with something and a band applied around the sealed area. same technique using modern materials? ?

With the whole butterfly how did it not go "squish"?

I have a jewelry customer who used to send me butterfly wings and I would electroform around the edges with 18kt gold. They really look nice and she sold all of them I could finish for her. The butterflies wings were encased in acrylic, but the acrylic was not poured over the wings. Instead, they were sandwiched between two pieces of acrylic. When they were sent to me, some of them actually had openings in the seams where the two pieces had become "un-sandwiched". When some of them started to separate along the edges, I had to use a filler to seal the openings before I could electroform them. I don't know for sure, but I suspect the two matching halves were made ahead of time, the wings were placed between them and they were somehow heat-sealed together. There were more than one species of butterflies used, and some of the were astoundingly beautiful.
