Tela kindly sent me slab of ballarat> I had mentioned that I thought her post of that material would make an interesting heart combo. This ballarat as a shimmery frosty surface. Its marblish and soft. The slab Tela sent was nice & thick I had no problem roughing out the wing and foresaw no fractures. But it cracked in the 220 grind phase. ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/stedmo/f2f2f2f2/ballarastbrokeheart.jpg) Usually I fix hearts like this. But this break is bad! I don’t think it can be fixed. I matched the ballarat with what I believe to be diorite. That as that same surface feature as the ballarat. Shimmery & frosty. But as I understand diorite is notoriously hard on the ol’mmohscale and my material about 5 mohs. So not sure where I go with his heart? Does anyone see a shape it can be free formed into?

Dang! I'm sorry, Ed. I would of warned you but it has been pretty solid stuff for me. It's a nice combo, though. I think you should just try to see what shape you can come up with freeform.

Broken heart..... Cut the ragged edge off and glue something else there? Maybe something soft but stable. Something red and call it a broken heart!

That's a great idea & something I been wanting to do. Lots of ways to fix a broken heart in rock at least ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

That is a heartbreaker indeed. TBH I would have no idea how to salvage it. I just found a little basket of "stones I didn't know how to fix and planned to toss" and realized that I now know how to save some of them as smaller pieces. Maybe you can sleep on it for a week or so and then decide how to proceed?

Good Sunday Afternoon All I chose to epoxy the broken piece on and grind the heart smaller. ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/stedmo/5rocknhearts21/fixxeddioballaheart.jpg) I’m pretty happy with the results. It not finished and can always try to get better gloss on the stone But its little be-bop’n heart mostly™ Thanks Everyone ! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

OOOOhhhh! It is so cute! You would never know there was anything wrong with it. Great save, Ed. I really hope the rest of the slab doesn't give you trouble.

Thanks Everyone ! It was fun project to fix and glad it worked out ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/stedmo/5rocknhearts21/balladiohungheart.jpg) The other side & the heart hanging. I imagine overhearing a conversation of a person saying: Wish I had a ballarat/diorite <3. And I can truly say: I’m your man…mostly™ ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)
